One of the first questions most of our client’s ask us when we start the decluttering process with them is “What do we do with the stuff we don’t want?”. It’s a source of concern for many people. For some it’s hard enough to part with certain items, let alone throw them out! Not to mention, garbage removal can become expensive.
So what do you do with the stuff? Here are our top suggestions for places that will help you with the things you don’t want to keep but aren’t willing to toss!
- Value Village: You can find Value Village stores all over the city. They take clothing, household goods, seasonal decorations, craft products, collectibles, textiles, books, and much more.
- Salvation Army Thrift Stores: These guys will take household goods, electronics, clothing, and more. The proceeds from these sales are used to support their various programs. As a bonus, if they are unable to sell your donations, they will ensure that they are recycled.
- Diabetes Canada: You have two options with this organization – either schedule a pick up or drop off at one of their bins. They will take unwanted clothing, blankets, toys, books, computers, cellphones and household items.
- Reboot Canada: This organization takes unwanted but working electronics. Including; computers, mobile devices, monitors and printers. Contact them to drop off your electronics.
- Red Door Shelter: Is a family shelter for families in crisis with nowhere else to turn and a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) shelter for moms who have bravely fled abuse to keep their kids safe. They operate 2 shelters in Toronto. They accept donations of grocery and personal care items (non-perishable food, baby formula and wipes, diapers, personal care and hygiene products) and household products.
- Habitat for Humanity Restore: Contribute construction materials, furniture, home decorations, cabinets, and appliances to one of the many Restores located in Toronto. The funds generated from reselling these items are used to support new housing initiatives.
