You don’t have to look far these days to find something in the news encouraging you to start supporting Canadian businesses. After a week of unexpected twists and turns, it’s easy to see why! Certainly, it has led me to consider my own spending habits. I now find myself trying to support the many amazing Canadian owned and operated companies we have.
With that in mind, I thought it would be a great time to introduce a new series on the blog. Welcome to the first edition of It’s a Canadian Thing! For the inaugural post, I thought I’d start the same way my day starts. Coffee!
The City of Toronto is no stranger to amazing coffee shops. You will find an amazing cup in pretty much every neighbourhood you go to. The list is long;
- Rooster Coffee House,
- Library Specialty Coffee,
- Jet Fuel Coffee,
- Propeller Coffee…you get the idea!
Today I’ve decided to share with you Pilot Coffee Roasters. In part because this is the place I get my freshly roasted beans for my morning cup of java. In part because they are truly an amazing Toronto born, Canadian company!
Discovering the Art of Coffee at Pilot Coffee Roasters in Toronto
Pilot Coffee Roasters was founded in 2009 by two friends, Andy Wilkin and Jessie Holmes. The two shared a passion for coffee and a vision to create something special. The original location Te Aro Roasted in Leslieville, started as a cafe and micro-roastery. It’s a pretty neat location if you haven’t been there. It was once a car garage!
Since then Pilot Coffee Roasters has grown. The new name was adopted in 2013 and its roasting location moved to 50 Wagstaff Drive. (Incidentally, this is where I buy my beans!). Currently Pilot operates multiple cafes across the city. It also supplies its meticulously roasted beans to cafes and homes worldwide.
What Makes Pilot Coffee Stand Out?
At its core, Pilot is about more than just coffee. It’s about the journey from bean to cup. The team at Pilot works closely with farmers and producers to source the finest specialty coffee beans. Ensuring ethical and sustainable practices every step of the way. This commitment to quality and transparency has earned Pilot a loyal following.
