Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto: January 31, 2012 Grand Opening

Earlier this month Forbes Travel Guide put the Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto on their 10 Most Anticipated Hotel Openings of 2012.  The newest addition to Toronto's hotel industry is part of this exclusive group that includes locations such as the W Paris -Opera, the Conrad New York, the ME London, and the Four Seasons Hotel Lion Palace St. Petersburg. Well Forbes need no longer wait as today is the Grand Opening!

Over the past couple of weeks the Trump Tower has had its fair share of press coverage.  We know that the hotel rooms have a colour scheme based on champagne and caviar, buyers of the condo units will have access to two chauffeured Mercedes sedans for airport trips or shopping sprees, guests will have a personal spa concierge, the restaurant is named Stock and will allow for 135 people to enjoy farm-raised meats and seasonal produce along with organic wines and desserts created daily (hopefully in the temperature-controlled chocolate lab!) , for a limited time the hotel rooms will only cost (a minimum of) $285/night, and after that it's anyones guess!  (CityNews in an article earlier today stated, "The hotel rooms will cost at least $285 a night. That’s the special, introductory price – after that, according to the Trump Toronto website, rooms could hit $1,340 a night for two people.").

The much anticpated coverage of the Grand Opening of the hotel has also been shadowed by several articles relating to the owners of some of the 118 condo suites located within the Tower. Moneyville.ca  reported that there is a  "sizable number of Trump International condos investors [that] have been trying to unload in the underground “assignment” market", and the Star published an article in December entitled Star Exclusive: Angry Trump condo buyer wants out.

It will be interesting to see what happens as all of the new luxury condo-hotel locations open up, by mid summer it is expected that the Four Seasons and Shangri-La will also be ready for visitors.  For now, though, Forbes will finally get to see this 5 star giant open up, and I'm looking forward to reading the reviews!
